TM Prompt Response: Last year. [Dec. 31st, 2005|12:22 am]

New Years Eve Reflections: Over the last year, did things go pretty much as you'd expected or planned, or did your life take a significant, unexpected turn? Overall, was it a good year or one that you want to put behind you as fast as you can?

Do things ever go the way people expect them to? It would seem to me that trying to plan an entire year is merely an exercise in futility. Of course, that doesn't stop us. We like to believe we have control over our destinies, however illusory it might be.

Thus, to say that anything was unexpected would be redundant. Oh, of course there are those of us who can occasionally get a glimpse what might happen. But even that is fleeting. Those things might, or might not come to pass.

But of course, I'm avoiding the question. Did things go as I expected they would? No, I can't say they did. Have things in my life taken significant, unexpected paths? Definitely. But I can't regret any of the things that have happened over the past year. I've had dreams come true, and I've had new dreams grow to replace them.

I have hopes for a good year ahead, and those that know me know I'm just stubborn enough and just arrogant enough to make those dreams and wishes come true.

TM Prompt Response: Relax [Oct. 15th, 2005|01:21 am]

What is your favorite thing to do to relax?

An interesting question. I find many different things relaxing.

Some that others might find to be quite the opposite, I would imagine.

I find the slowly weakening heartbeat of my prey beneath my palm, as it stutters to stillness to be relaxing. The cold satisfaction I get in watching my victim's eyes widen in recognition of their imminent demise is calming. I cherish the moment they realize that in the intense pleasure of their release, they never noticed the tiny sting I inflicted.

But perhaps that is too shocking. I should, of course, claim some other, more sedate diversion.

Very well, then. I enjoy reading. It's a pleasure to lose myself in a story. It's a comfort to let some hero's trials and hardships make mine pale for an hour or two. It gives me hope to read through to a story's climax, the moment when he or she prevails against all odds. It makes me think that perhaps I, too, will overcome all that stands between me and the happy finale that all who suffer are promised.

Oh, Merciful Darkness. If you believed that, then you need to go back and read the first answer again.

Daemon stalks through the small garden, growling as he paces the length of it.

How dare he. How dare he. And Surreal. Letting him near her at this time. Daemon thinks he's been more than fair about accepting Surreal's choice. And he thinks he's been more than fair to the other man by consoling his Lady while she was worried about him. But this... this is going too far.

Daemon's fury rises as the temperature falls, his footsteps leaving rimes of ice on the blades of grass. It doesn't take much for him to reach the killing edge, and Kaelas padding into the garden is enough to do it. With a snarl, he turns to face the cat, but the feline has already retreated, which in itself is enough to bring a bit of reason back to him.

Mother Night, let me get through this without killing anyone.
